Kalhovd lies on the east bank of the Kalhovd Fjord, at the eastern rim of the Hardanger Plateau and is a natural gateway to the plateau.
Kalhovd Touristcabin is located beautifully by Kalhovdfjorden, south east on the mountainchain Hardangervidda.
In the summer you can get here by car. There is a daily ferry to Mårbu. In the high season you can get here by bus which corresponds to and from Oslo.
From the cabin there are T marked trails to the next DNT huts, Helberghytta, Stordalsbu and Mårbu.
Kalhovd is very popular as a bike destination. Take Krossobanen up from Rjukan and bike 30 km on gravel road to Kalhovd. Spend the night, enjoy the nature and homemade food.
The dinner at Kalhovd is the main event of the day and is served at 1900. Breakfast is served between 0800- 0930.
In the winter the place is a great start and ending point for skiing from one cabin to the next or as a base for day trips.
Kalhovd has 75 beds.
Outside high season you can lock yourself in to one of the huts with a DNT key. There are 3 bedrooms and kitchen facilities. You have to bring your own food.
