Overview

2 March–27 April, Kunstnernes Hus

The exhibition The common owned presents a concentrated selection from the art collection of Oslo Municipality, which totally consists of 20 000 works. The exhibition's title refers to the capital's art collection as something that is owned by all its inhabitants. This is the art that people meet in public spaces: in schools, public baths, libraries and nursing homes, in parks and outdoor spaces, and which everyone relate to in some way or another.

The exhibition reflects the interaction between art, architecture, urban spaces and the city's population, and tells a story about the development of Oslo as a modern capital. Through points of impact in the municipality's collection from the end of the 18th century and up until today, the exhibition sheds light on the significant of art in urban development and what "the common owned" implies: socially, politically and culturally.
